  • The White House: FY 2012 Budget
    On February 14, 2011 President Obama submitted the Fiscal 2012 (FY 12) budget request to Congress, outlining the administration's budget priorities including proposed funding for the International Affairs Account (150). According to the President, the FY 12 budget request focuses on an integrated approach to solving global problems through investments in civilian diplomatic and development in alignment with defense, while mutually reinforcing elements of President Obama's National Security Strategy and the Presidential Policy Directive. Funding for the Global Health Initiative (GHI) totaled $9.8 billion, Funding for GHI also includes over $1 billion from Health and Human Services, the Department of Defense, and other State & Foreign Operations accounts. Total funding for maternal, newborn and child health programs totaled $1.291 billion, with $846 million from USAID and the remainder from other global health and development accounts.

  • The Global Child Survival Act of 2009
    On October 28, 2009, the Global Child Survival Act was introduced in the Senate and referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations.  The bill calls for greater coordination and enhanced accountability for our child survival resources as well as a government-wide strategy for meeting MDG 4.
