Child Survival Alliance

More than 9 million children under the age of five die each year from illnesses and conditions that are readily preventable or treatable. The Child Survival Alliance unites corporate leaders to save the lives of children worldwide by elevating child survival as a global priority.

Why Does Child Survival Matter?

We all want to help children and their families in the developing world have the opportunity for a healthy and secure life. Healthy children are more likely to succeed in school and to become productive members of society. And a healthy world for children is a safer, more prosperous, and more equitable world for us all.

The private sector already plays a vital role in helping to save the lives of the world’s children. Breakthroughs in research and development have produced successful new interventions, including vaccines and medicines. Investments in water and sanitation infrastructure and supply chain management solutions help ensure access to essential health care services and products in thousands of communities. Drawing on its commitment to cost-effectiveness and quality assurance, the private sector continues to demonstrate that support for child survival reflects both corporate and shareholder responsibility.

Why Should Your Corporation Join the Alliance?

Led by the US Coalition for Child Survival, which is comprised of more than 40 leading international development nonprofit organizations, the Alliance brings together corporate and nonprofit leaders to increase awareness of the root causes of child mortality and mobilize support for action by public and private sector decision-makers. The Alliance disseminates factual and relevant materials about child survival. It also promotes dialogue and collaboration among international and local stakeholders to bolster support for child survival issues.

Members of the Alliance are invited to participate in a range of informative programs that initially includes:

•  Invitations to an annual US Coalition for Child Survival Policy Series, which brings together corporate and nongovernmental leaders and highlights the work of the Coalition’s member organizations and private sector partners in the field.

•  Inclusion in a featured section of the Coalition's website showcasing corporate members' commitment to child survival with examples of partnerships between public health programs and the private sector.

•  Official Coalition endorsement of a corporate member's commitment to the Child Survival Pledge in support of maternal and child health in developing countries.

•  An e-subscription to updates about child survival issues, spotlighting timely media coverage, legislative and policy developments, research findings, and case studies of successful field projects.

•  Pre-qualification to join a Coalition-sponsored "Trade Mission" (at additional cost), traveling to one or more countries, visiting program sites, and meeting with development leaders and government officials to profile successes in the field.

•  The opportunity to participate in an annual awards gala (at additional cost), recognizing outstanding contributions to child survival by policymakers, international leaders, and the private sector.
